Picking your Battles - Get Your Teen to Tune You In, Not Out!

When it comes to parenting your teen, how do you determine the difference between what is worth fighting over and what is important to let go of? In this webinar, we’ll tackle this question concretely, focusing on pragmatic strategies to navigate the following topics:

  • The Adolescent Brain - Wired for Autonomy but ‘Under Construction’

  • Dealing with Resistance and Navigating Frustration

  • Robust Communication - Moving Past Monosyllabic Responses

  • Drawing Hard Lines (and sometimes, not)

Meredith has her Master's in Human Development and School Counseling and two decades of experience as a prep school administrator, college counselor, and admission officer. While that makes her an “expert” on paper, it’s her day-to-day interaction with adolescents, young adults, and parents that counts. She is empathetic, funny, and, smart. You’ll walk away from this workshop feeling empowered and understood.

Harmony at Home: A 4-Part Workshop on Parenting Your Teen Effectively

There’s plenty of good parenting advice out there, but few of us can make meaningful changes in our relationships with our kids just based on a book or webinar.

In this four-session workshop, you’ll work in a group setting with veteran educator Andy Kitt to bring about lasting development in your parenting mindset and skills. Over the course of a month, Andy will guide you through exercises that will help you live better with your teen and build your capacity for more effective parenting.

The workshop combines proven techniques for deepening emotional intelligence, a variety of mindfulness practices, and insights from neuroscience on the teenage brain. And you’ll apply these to specific situations in your life, with opportunities for input from Andy and fellow participants.

You’ll learn how to:

  • recognize and understand “normal” teen behavior

  • catch yourself before reacting in unhelpful ways

  • equip yourself to hear your teen’s unspoken needs

  • communicate to help your teen be more receptive

  • use mindfulness practices to get better, over time, at all of these aspects of high-EQ parenting

Meets on 4 Thursday mornings, November 12 and 19 and December 3 and 10, 10:30-11:45 a.m. Pacific.
